Read the book - IF
After 1962 India and Nehru lost the prestige with the eastern countries and they also knew that it will create problems with China.
IG became suspicious of the attacks on Nehru and when she became PM neglected the east asia more or less.
So from 1962 to 1992 India had basically shut itself from most of asia.
